Do I really need to have my chimney cleaned?   

1. If you have any doubt, call a professional chimney sweep for record files or advice on the particular address. 
   (Most sweep files are filed by address because people do move, the address doesn't.)
    
2. If there is 2mm or more creosote build-up in the chimney flue, there is the potential for a chimney fire. Some types of creosote require even less to be a chimney fire danger.
    
3. Dirty chimneys can cause chimney fires, which damage structures, destroy homes and injure or kill people.
    
4. Nests in chimneys, or blockage of any kind can cause smoking problems, chimney fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.
    
5. In order to maintain your chimney in peak operating conditions which means free from debris, nest and creosote.
    
6. If your chimney does not need to be cleaned during the scheduled appointment the chimney still gets inspected.
